3pm iwt with the first boats on the course by 4pm iwt

Magellan Sea Welcome Center  (http://places.inworldz.com/Magellan%20Center/133/243/22)

1- The rally is open to all Inworldz residents.

2- Preregistering your boat is recommended. There are two classes of boats, power and sail.  Contact Drew Hunter or Scott Carpaccio to register.

3- Sail a predetermined course based on clues and information.  At each location there will be a question that needs to be answered and a clue to the next port.

4- Crews will not need to get out of their boat to answer a question.

5- Boats leave the start line, one at a time, at predetermined intervals.  The boat with the most correct answers wins the rally.  A faster time breaks a tie.

MAGELLAN SEA (c)* NEWS LETTER (Issue 3)
Aug-Sept
(Reporters: Drew Hunter, Calnia Westland)

Welcome to the Third Monthly Magellan Sea Newsletter.
* We hope to continue bringing you monthly news about our community
* Introduce you to some of our resident
* Give you information and landmarks to places of interest.

This month we interview Modee Parlez, famed ship builder here in IW.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Drew:
Today we are interviewing Modee Parlez, a well known resident and builder in InWorldz.
Good Morning Modee, glad you could be here today.
Let me start by saying it’s hard to travel anywhere in world and not see one of your ships in some sea port.
I know I certainly kept seeing them when I was first here.
So my first question for you would be “How did all this ship building come about for you?”
Modee:
First of all greetings to all 🙂
And to answer your question, well I was invited here like 4 years ago now.
The pirate RP community knew me from SL where I did mostly textures and clothing.
IW was still struggling with good seas to sail and for the RP community there were some ships but
they looked 😦 and script quality was real old time to say so.
And then 🙂 I saw Tenbears his ships and I was in love with them :), if only one could make 17th 18th century ships I thought.
Now a few years before I went to work in for a fashion brond I was working in a more technical branch where I did the graphic styling. I had seen engineers work with 3D programs but in my work there was not much demand for that 😦
Till I came here, all of a sudden a world open for me. This was my chance to prove myself I could do it!
So after harassing Tenbears for weeks I finally set to try it myself. And the Felukka gun boat was born 🙂
But 😦 I had no decent scripts, so Trouble Mooncurser invited over a scripter to have a look. When he came he said, ” Such a nice boat deserves a good script ” and well the rest is history 🙂
Learning more and more and aiming for higher quality Loose Cannon Ship Yard was born and well like you said, you can’t pass a sim without seeing one of my creations 🙂
Now I know there are many great builders around in IW but what i made my credo is ” SERVICE” and that is what all like about LCSY more then my builds i hope 🙂
——————————————–
Drew:
I sure Speak for all the residents here that we’re glad you came and stayed
Jewel and I recently joined your battle group. Can tell our readers what that is and why you do it?
Modee:
Well the Battle group was originally owned by Insideoutjim and there were more roleplay groups around.
In time it all sort of fell into my lap. In SL I was part of the Continental Navy but here I erected that group since there was none.
The main thing we do is try have fun 🙂 Our RP is situated in 17th 18th century which means Pirates,, Merchants, Privateers and of course Navy 🙂
Twice a week we try have a battle and the scenario differs from Shoot All, Gunner Only, The Smuggler Run,
Spanish Invaders, Hunt the Kraken to Moby Dick Attacks. And all we can think up to have fun 🙂 Some of these can be seen on You tube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKF6EXpeK4c
The Why is simple, I love it and no one else does it at the moment BUT I must say I am getting great help of great people.
Furthermore I teach sailing and gunnery to all that want to take part in our RP or just want to learn to sail 🙂
—————————————
Drew:
Can you tell us a little about your Regions?
Modee:
Hmmm, well since we are in RP I guard the look of our sims well, I mean we are not hard core players but we try to create that period style and we do a lot ourself, if it don’t exist we build it 🙂
But the sims are open to all to visit or sail unless a Play is on!
———————————————–
Drew: Tell us about Fleet Day (on Sept 30 this year)
Modee :
That idea came to me in 2015! when I looked around i saw many ships of many builders but all enclosed in their own sims. So I set out to invite all the builders of nautical stuff to take part in the bigger yearly event.
It was a success 🙂 and we decided to make it a yearly event.
There is Music by diff DJ’s or singers, there are fireworks, there are sailing demonstrations, Raffles etc and we couple this now to the RFL action too.
So HELLO builder, if you want to exhibit you stuff give me a call 🙂 To make it more clear NOT only period stuff but all types of ships or whatever floats 🙂 or is supposed to float hahaha
But most of all it is to have fun and show what is possible in Virtual Worlds!
——————————————————————————————————————-
Drew
Ok, let me wrap this up by asking you about the future.
Briefly what are your Hopes, Dreams and Fears about the future of Sailing here IW?
Modee :
Well we can only hope things get better in IW again, I notice the founders are working all the time on the grid but not every chance is one for the better. I see more and more people leaving because they don’t feel appreciated in the efforts they do here to make this a great grid. My self I was on the brink a few times to just give up, but then well I am Modee and Modee just bares the cross and moves on. My only BIG concern is scripters, you barely find anymore here and that is a bad thing. No scripters no stuff to make work. For the rest well I have to dear friends here to just leave behind 🙂
Drew
Thank you Modee Parlez for taking this time out to talk to us.
Good Luck in all your future builds and endeavors.
MAGELLAN SEA (c)* NEWS LETTER (Issue 2) July 2017
(Reporters: Drew Hunter, Calnia Westland)
Welcome to the Second Monthly Magellan Sea Newsletter.
* We hope to continue bringing you monthly news about our community
* Introduce you to some of our resident
* Give you information and landmarks to places of interest.
This month we interview TEAL ETZEL, the creator of A Pamplemousse, Longacre, and Old Mill. Not familiar with those terms? Well, read on and soon you’ll be informed about this creative member of the Magellan Sea Community.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Calnia:
Thank you for taking time for this interview. Can you tell us a little about yourself, when you came to IW, and what has kept you here?

Teal:
I came early in 2010. I enjoyed the pioneer spirit of the place, I liked the community but most of all I enjoyed the fact I could build to my hearts content. Many things delighted me like free uploads for textures etc, what seemed like limitless prims, and I could afford a place that I could landscape. I enjoy building immensely but my first love is creating the environment to place a building. To cater to that in SL you really need to be earning quite a bit and that became very pressured. So when I encountered InWorldz I loved that I could afford a place to landscape and build a garden.

Calnia:
You have create and sell some lovely landscaping and interior décor items. Did you learn to build elsewhere or have you developed this skill in IW?

Teal:
I have an avatar in SL. As I write I think “Teal Etzel” has a rezz date mid 2007. I had another Ave that was earlier (2005) but she is long gone. I came into SL as an educator. I taught in a university level art school. In my twenties I majored in painting and I have exhibited my art, but as the years went on and technology developed my interest in visual arts moved into the digital realm.
I ended up teaching Photoshop, Illustrator, and Web design. I was part of a team of lecturers that taught various subjects in the digital arts. We were tasked to put together a research paper on virtual worlds (in 2007) Doing that research made me hang around SL long enough to become interested. I had always thought of myself a 2D type but discovered building and enjoyed it.
I still dont do much modeling to be honest and make no secret of using various builders resources. I am one of those people that can spend hours texturing something but chucks spack attack at blender. Although I did lots of building in SL and learnt much at Builders Brewery in SL, it was in InWorldz with the free uploads and space to build that I really learned much. I have been able to build in a sustained way here, and like any activity the more you build the more you learn. So InWorldz has enhanced my creative life immensely.

Calnia:
Your group is called A Pamplemousse. Where did you get that name and what does it refer to?

Teal:
Pamplemousse is French for grapefruit. I am Australian but I was traveling in France where one summers day I was given a hand made grapefruit icecream. It was wonderful and I asked what it was. I was told the flavour was Pamplemousse- I exploded in laughter as it sounded so strange to english speaking ear. I loved the word for days I wandered around saying it. Feeling it roll off my tongue made me smile. So when I came back from that trip I opened a shop here in InWorldz – by that name – to me it’s a happy word.

Calnia:
Last year you took a break from InWorldz in order to go on a RL adventure. Do you mind sharing with us about your time in Europe? Did you have a lot of preparation before beginning this journey? What is the part of it that stands out most to you?

Teal:
Last year my husband retired. My RL husband and partner in SL and Inworldz are all the same person. We are both 60 and we wanted to mark a good life- a good marriage of 37 years, a good working life, good health. These are all immensely valuable so we decided to walk a pilgrimage in gratitude and pause to mark this time in our life. The Camino de Santiago or the Way of St James is a well known route because people have been walking this pilgrimage since the 1200’s. A movie “The Way” was made about it.. The Way of St James is actually a network of ancient routes that criss cross Europe but the most popular route walked is 500 miles (800 kms) long and starts at a little village that is nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees called St Pied de Port. Basically you start there and keep walking until you reach Santiago in Spain. Here is the info about it in Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camino_de_Santiago

We did not rush the walk as it is not a hike like others that are done as physical challenge. The Camino is about a psychological process as much as anything. In other words we walked as pilgrims and it was one of those peak experiences in life. You ask about stand out moments. To be honest long distance walking is not like that. Everyday there are special moments as you are walking a very old route that is full of history but it is the moments that encounter something about yourself that are the lessons. Those lessons change you. Before I left I thought I am 60 with wonky knees I know who I am and I will be happy to just make it. Well… I did learn lots about myself and felt invigorated by the fact that at 60 I still had lots to learn. Next year we are going to do it again!

We also saw a bit Europe while away – we spent time in France and Italy and all up were away for nearly 5 months so saw a lot. I came back with lots of photos to turn into textures and have barely started to tinker with them.

Calnia:
Before taking your break from IW last year, you owned a wonderful quad of sims known as Longacre. Since your return, Head Winds is your current home and is a fun place to explore. From you profile picture, it looks like you might map out your sim. Do you plan your sims in advance, or do you begin to landscape and let the process and the land lead you to subsequent steps?

Teal:
To be honest it is a mix. If I am landscaping for someone else I ask them what they want and if they want it I will map it out particularly if it is complex and on a couple of levels such as underwater, ground level then a hill or mountain level with waterfalls etc. Since I have been in Inworldz I let things evolve more and I like what happens so I would say I plan a bit then let things grow.

Calnia:
If there anything you wish the people of IW knew about you that you haven’t had a chance to share?

Teal:
Oh I never know what people would be interested in! So I will leave it at that except to say that like many builds my region is a work in progress all the time. I used to worry about things looking good all the time but this time I am being more relaxed and enjoying it. I have sent some images of the Ruins at the Old Mill. This is my latest piece of landscaping/ building. I am happy for people to explore it. Thanks for the interview .

PEARL YACHT CLUB

PYC_003

Pearl Yacht Club was the 3rd yacht club in Inworldz, going back to March 27, 2011 being a member of Magelan Sea community ever since. The yacht club was founded by dutch resident Lamat Lisle and is situated in the north-west corner of the Magellan Sea area on a region named Pearl. Pearl Yacht Club has always been open for visitors and sailors, hosting occasional events, offering slip rentals, rez-zone and sailing races/cruises. Due to busy RL occupations the club was discontinued for a short period in 2015, then moved to a different region in 2016, but can now be found again in it’s old spot on the grid. It still houses the original club building and the palaver house as well as a detailed remake of the Fisgard Lighthouse (originally near Victoria, Canada).
The club house has a cozy bar, a stage for musicians and a DJ set with dance floor. In the area you can take a short nature hike and there is a nice underwater scene for scuba diving and mermaids. Situated right next to I’z Straits 44 there is a lot of water available for sailing. In the near future surfboards, sailing boats, nautical goodies, buildings and clothing can be found in the shopping area.

Pearl Yacht Club offers the only race start line available in Inworldz. It is a race line very similar to the lines we see in Second Life’s Blake Sea. Lamat is working on the Olympic class 470 boat. It is a two person dinghy which will be powered with a modded version of Becca Mouliez’ B-Wind script. The boat will be compatible with the race line and in the near future we will probably see addition of the WWC racewind package in the boat and Inworldz. When Lamat releases the boat then the race lines will become available for public use.

MAGELLAN SEA NEWS LETTER (issue 1) June 2017
(Reporters: Drew Hunter, Calnia Westland)

Welcome to the first monthly Magellan Sea Newsletter. We hope to bring you monthly news about our community, introduce you to some of our residents, and give you information and landmarks to places of interest.

We felt a good place to start is with an interview of the President of Magellan Sea.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Interview with our president Scott Carpaccio:
Drew:
Good morning Scott and thank you for taking time to do this interview. Let me start by asking you how long have you been a member of Magellan and what made you join our community in the first place?
Scott:
Hello Drew, Hi Calnia. My pleasure to be here. Always happy to talk about Magellan Sea. It’s one of my favorite topics. Hmmm, I have to think about that. Let’s see, I believe it was late 2014 when I became a Magellan member. But let me back up a minute. I had been working on my region, which is a Greek coastal town, here in InWorldz since 2010 and I always had fun building it and “living there”. The issue for me though was that it was basically an island. If you didn’t tp there you couldn’t visit it. I knew about Magellan however the people around me at the time were not in favor of connecting to other regions. So we stayed on our own. Finally in 2014 I decided lets try it because I really wanted to see people sailing through my region not to mention being able to sail the seas not just sail in a circle around my own region. It turned out to be a fantastic decision. We really enjoy the freedom of movement!
Drew:
can you tell us a little about your sim(s) and land holdings in Magellan?
Do you offer any scenic or special features for members to come and visit and see?
Scott:
Well, I guess I started to touch on that a little already. My wife Glitz Carpaccio and I own a 2×2 region right on the lz”Ocean. Basically it consists of two parts, Picnic Island and Loggos Harbor. As far as features to see, we have various activities however as opposed to going over detailed things to do I would prefer to touch on our main focus. We are concerned with providing a nice looking and consistent place for people to explore. The consistency is extremely important to us. What I mean by that is, if a guest visits and then a year later clicks on the landmark for it in their inventory that landmark is still active. Picnic Island is meant to be a relaxing place to stroll around and hang out. Nothing to buy, nothing to rent, no roads just enjoy. Picnic’s location I did not realize was the location Sunny Day had when she was in Magellan. Sunny was one of InWorldz Pioneers. When I found that out I placed an eternal flame at the entrance to Picnic Island so that knowledge would not be lost over time. Regarding Loggos Harbor, it was built specifically as my way of paying back for my early exploring days. It’s idea came from one of my favorite regions in a previous grid. That region was called Mare Mare which sadly is no longer there. It was an oceanside Greek town on the side of a hill which is what Loggos Harbor is. About a year ago or so i actually connected with the creators of Mare Mare in RL so that was fun. But back to the consistency, I always enjoyed having a bank of landmarks I could visit and too often many places come and go. I appreciated the ones that were always there so that is what we really want to do, always be there.
Drew:
The Magellan Welcome Center has recently moved.
Can you tell us the story behind that?
Scott:
Sure. One of the founders of Magellan Sea, Anna Loom, had hosted the Welcome Center since the first days of InWorldz. She generously donated land and prims for it and it has been a rock in the community for many years. Unfortunately real life has gotten in the way for Anna and a new home was needed for the Welcome Center. It now resides on a region bearing its own name, Magellan Center, with direct ocean access as it had before. We were extremely fortunate to have several offers to host the new location. That speaks volumes about the residents here who want to see Magellan thrive. It’s fantastic to have so many people who care. The great thing about the Welcome Center is if any InWorldz resident has a question regarding Magellan Sea they can simply stop there and either pick up information, see a map of the area or page someone for one on one help. The Welcome Center is located here 􀀅 This might be a good time to mention that there is no actual Magellan Sea body of water. So if you are looking to take a dip in the Magellan Sea you will be looking a very long time. The founders of InWorldz generously created the lz’Ocean and the lz’Straits for all residents to enjoy.
Drew:
What do you see for the future of Magellan Sea Community?
And what would you like to see accomplished during your term as president?
Scott:
The founders of Magellan did a great job laying out the framework for it that we still use today. Magellan has been able to sustain its availability to all residents and quite honestly I think the formula is spot on as it is now. All our members are happy to work together towards a common goal, that goal being to provide free travel on their regions for everyone. This means you and I are able to potentially fly and sail on approximately 175 regions. How great is that? That is just awesome! And Magellan Sea is governed by its own residents so the participation factor is second to none. As far as goals, when I was Vice President my focus was to grow the membership, which we did. There was no “slow time” we were kept quite busy all year with adding new members and current members expanding their areas. Taika Wirsing was President at the time and I have learned so much from her with that being the understatement of the year. Without Taika that would have been a very long year for sure. As President my focus has been to grow the awareness of Magellan Sea. There are many new members of InWorldz coming monthly. If they are aware of Magellan Sea, and aware of other areas throughout InWorldz I believe that is good for the grid as a whole. I hesitate to mention the long list of places because I don’t want to leave a place out but Magellan is only one of many options people have here in InWorldz. Judy Dressler’s Explorer HUD is a fantastic reference for everyone not just people new to InWorldz. You can pick that up at IDI. 􀀄 There are many wonderful places to rent, buy, explore, dance and so on throughout the grid. The more options new InWorldz residents are aware of the more chance we will have to retain them as long term residents of the grid. So awareness of Magellan has been the focus for this year.
Drew:
What can members do to increase the awareness of Magellan Community to the IW population as a whole?
Scott:
I am a firm believer in word of mouth. Sure we can take out ads, hold events, wear tags however if someone is happy as a Magellan member the best thing they can do is to tell someone. And if a Magellan resident is not happy, please speak up. We are a community and we work together. This is your virtual home and we strive to make it a pleasant experience.
Drew:
Can you refresh us on the procedures to becoming a member of our community for those who may wish to join Magellan?
Scott:
Visit the Magellan Sea Welcome Center to pick up a copy of the Charter and Building codes. It is very important to read through those because Magellan is a large group of connected regions governed by its residents and adheres to a set of Covenants and Building Codes as a guideline for homes and businesses. Magellan residents agree to allow boating, flying and open passage on their regions for everyone and they also agree to abide by the Charter (Covenants) and the Building Codes. After that simply contact a Magellan board member, a list of which you will find at the Magellan Welcome Center and they can walk you through the process or put you in touch with someone who can.
Drew:
Do you have any final words or thoughts you would like to convey to our members?
Scott:
I have one final word and that word is Fun. This should be fun, relaxing, entertaining, good friends, community. The Magellan members and the Magellan Board Members are the reason we thrive. I am so thankful for all of them because they are the ones that make it fun!
Drew:
Than you Scott for your time this morning.
